What is Pharmaceutical Medicine?
Pharmaceutical Medicine is defined as the medical scientific discipline concerned with the discovery, development, evaluation, registration, monitoring and medical aspects of marketing of medicines for the benefit of patients and Public Health.
 
The College
The College is a joint Faculty of members of the Belgian “Académie Royale de Médecine”, of the Belgian “Koninklijke Academie voor Geneeskunde” and of the Belgian Association of Pharmaceutical Physicians. Its main objective is to set, maintain and improve standards of practice in pharmaceutical medicine in Belgium. The College is registered in Belgium as a non-profit-making organisation # 475277630.
 
The College was founded
  1. to promote pharmaceutical medicine
  2. to develop, maintain and improve competence, ethical integrity and professional standards in the practice of pharmaceutical medicine
  3. to advance knowledge in pharmaceutical medicine.
 
The College takes appropriate actions to:
  1. promote education and training in pharmaceutical medicine
  2. award certificates of physician specialists in pharmaceutical medicine
  3. maintain the register of physician specialists in pharmaceutical medicine
  4. promote continued medical education (CME) and continued professional development (CPD)
  5. verify the CME and CPD activities of its members in order to ensure their continued competence
  6. represent the specialty of pharmaceutical medicine on appropriate councils and committees for postgraduate medical education
  7. act as an authoritative body for the purpose of consultation in matters concerning pharmaceutical medicine.
  8. obtain recognition for pharmaceutical medicine as a new medical specialty by the Belgian Ministry of Health and Social Welfare
